Chapter 937: Make Heaven miscalculate once! | Renegade Immortal
Renegade Immortal - Updated on February 24, 2025
“My name is Bai Wei!” The man declared, his voice resonating slightly within the hidden valley. “That you have ventured here, Royal Brother, speaks of your understanding of my previous words.” His eyes, a disturbing hue, fixed upon the warding sigils etched high above the valley mouth.
Wang Lin frowned, his gaze sharpening. The chilling aura surrounding Bai Wei was not only present but intensified, reaching an unnatural concentration. No mortal vessel could possibly contain such Yin essence; it had almost solidified. With such corruption festering within, his very lifeforce should have been extinguished, leaving only an animated corpse behind.
“When the White Poplar blooms, darkness and light shall invert. Indeed, I comprehend a portion of your meaning, Brother Bai,” Wang Lin said carefully, betraying no emotion.
Bai Wei sighed, a bitter expression contorting his features. He lowered his head, then spoke softly, “I am outmaneuvered by my Master. I believed I had three months before the corruption truly consumed me, three months in which to implore your aid, Royal Brother. I held a mere sliver of hope to overcome this… Alas, I cannot escape his designs.” Wang Lin remained silent, his brow furrowed.
“I had anticipated more time before your discovery, Royal Brother. I intended to prompt you again on the morrow, but such is no longer necessary. It is now the hour of the Rabbit. My Master is currently in seclusion, but once this hour passes, he will sense the disturbance here and descend upon us.” Bai Wei’s face twisted in a mask of sorrow as he sighed, his eyes becoming distant and lost in memory. “Before my Master arrives, would you grant me leave to tell you a tale… I was born into a noble family of fortune on this very Tian Yun Star. At my birth, all of Tian Yun Star was bathed in a radiant, crimson dawn, which vanished utterly thereafter.”
“Only when I embarked on the Path of Immortality and reflected upon those bygone days did I learn that the crimson light was known as True Yang, and that the day of my birth, when calculated, fell upon the apex of the Yang cycle.”
“Such a day of extreme Yang occurs only once in millennia. It is said that any child born on that day, according to my later research, perished within the womb.”
“Should a boy be born, perhaps a lifeless babe could be delivered. But if a girl were to be born, all traces of her would be swept away, leaving nothing.” Bai Wei’s voice faltered, pain etched upon his face as he gazed into the past.
“I… I had a sister… We were twins. At the very height of that extreme Yang day, there was a fleeting moment of extreme Yin. It was in that instant, as the balance teetered toward Yin, that I was born. As my sister faded from existence, she absorbed a sliver of the extreme Yin essence, her spirit became bound within me, though her corporeal form was no more.”
“All was well at first; my sister’s spirit remained dormant within me, slumbering quietly. If it had remained so, then what happened several years later would not have happened.”
“When I was but seven years of age, a cultivator of the Tian Yun Sect took notice of me and brought me into the mountain gates, and I began my journey in cultivation. My gifts were great, and I advanced swiftly, rising above the common disciples and entering the inner circle.”
“Centuries passed in the blink of an eye. My cultivation reached the Nascent Soul stage. Fortune smiled upon me once more, and among all the inner disciples, I ascended to become one of Master Zi Xi’s direct disciples.”
“As my powers grew, I slowly learned that I was different. I discovered that within my soul, another spirit resided: that of my sister. Slowly, she began to stir from her slumber. My intention was that, when she awoke, I would entreat my Master to sever my sister’s spirit and allow her to reincarnate…” Bai Wei sighed, the sound laced with bitterness. Then, his features hardened, his fist clenched as he spat, “I will never forget that day. I was cultivating, and my sister’s soul was nearing the moment of awakening when Zhao Xing Sha appeared before me without warning. With power far beyond my own, he struck me down, causing my sister’s spirit to fuse further with mine in the instant of her awakening. From that moment onward, I became a twisted abomination, neither man nor woman.” His eyes flashed with uncontrollable fury. “In despair, I turned to my Master for aid. He bestowed upon me the Yin Yang Dual Desire Art, claiming that when I reached the ninth layer, my sister’s spirit would separate from my own. Little did I know, my Master was deceiving me all along.”
“The Yin Yang Dual Desire Art proved to be a strangely swift practice for me to advance. Though focused on the cultivation of the soul, its impact on overall cultivation growth was great. But I cared not. I only wished for the day when my sister’s soul could be released into the cycle of reincarnation.”
“Centuries slipped by—the very time when you departed from Tian Yun Star. And when I realized the truth, it was far too late…” Bai Wei spoke in a voice filled with sorrow. He tore open his robes, revealing his chest. Upon his flesh, crimson and azure lines intertwined, snaking from his arms like the branches of a grotesque plant.
“Behold! The mark of the Yin Yang Dual Desire Art! After I cultivated it, my meridians twisted into this ungodly form.” As he uttered those words, pain contorted his face. The chilling energy within him surged out of control, the unholy brand pulsing once more.
“Each time I speak of the art, this mark flares, causing the Yin energy within me to escalate wildly, forcing the Yin Yang Dual Desire Art to cultivate on its own accord without my control.” “And now I know that the extreme Yang incident of my birth was orchestrated by my Master. He used his powers to twist the very fabric of Tian Yun Star to create that unique moment… all of it, part of his grand design…”
“The longer I stayed within the Tian Yun Sect, the more I understood. My Master’s cultivation had reached its limit. He could not break through. He has become a demon! And I, am nothing more than one of his experiments…”
“I know my Master wants the Yin energy within me to reach its zenith and wait for the instant of extreme Yang, just like it happened at my birth.”
Here’s a rewrite of the provided text in a fantasy style, aimed at capturing the essence of the original while using more evocative language and imagery:
Whispers of past failures clung to the air, for the Master Celestial had attempted this dreadful alchemy many times before, each time ending in abysmal doom. But I was the only one who survived! A thunderclap of revelation struck Wang Lin. “The Yin’s despair, the Yang’s destruction… what power is it, what method did Celestial seek to gain?” He stared at Bai Wei, a chill settling in his bones. He believed the man’s claims, though a seed of doubt lingered.
Bai Wei’s face twisted into a mask of bitter triumph. He roared with laughter, a sound that echoed through the forgotten valley. “Wang Lin, my schemes were naught! I could never surpass the Celestial Master’s foresight. He knew all along I understood these dark truths. Before him, I am but an ant, and even a maddened ant cannot shake the heavens!”
“But even an ant can bite the hand that holds it! I, this test subject, will do something that will leave the Celestial reeling! I wager even his power cannot comprehend my plan!”
“Wang Lin, I know my fate. There is no salvation for me. But before the darkness takes me, I will give you the essence of a thousand years of cultivation, the very thing Celestial covets, that sliver of purest Yang he has waited for. Do you dare to accept it?”
Bai Wei’s voice boomed across the valley, the words echoing in the stone, a thunderous challenge reverberating in Wang Lin’s ears: “Do you dare?!”
Wang Lin hesitated, a tempest raging within him. He knew not the true nature of this gift, but if Celestial desired it so fiercely, it must be of immense power. To accept it was to invite the Celestial’s incandescent wrath.
“The hour of the dragon approaches. Celestial could arrive at any moment! Give me your answer, Wang Lin! Do you dare?” Bai Wei waited, a flicker of disappointment crossing his ravaged face. “Did he foresee even this? Did he know that even if I offered, you would refuse? That you would return it to him? Master Celestial, has your sight truly encompassed all things since the dawn of time? Have you truly never erred? I refuse to believe it! I refuse to believe you are infallible!”
Bai Wei’s words struck a chord within Wang Lin. His eyes blazed with newfound determination.
“A life without error? A perfect, flawless being? Such a Celestial would be invulnerable. To challenge such a being would be to lose before the battle began. But what would happen if he were to miscalculate just once?” Wang Lin’s heart hammered in his chest, a war drum of defiance.
Celestial believed Wang Lin would not accept this power. If he did, the Celestial’s killing intent would be unleashed, a storm of vengeance that would brook no resistance.
He calculated every move.
To take it, or to refuse it?
Wang Lin struggled, torn between survival and defiance. He had always been a creature of decisive action, but now he hesitated. To accept was to invite death. But to refuse was to be forever haunted by the shadow of the Celestial’s omnipresent gaze. He realised that, if he chose to retreat in this instance he would not be able to face the Celestial again, knowing that every move he made, and decision he took had already been accounted for. He realised he would be living in fear, and he would never progress on his path.
“I am a Reverser of Fate!” Wang Lin cried inwardly, remembering the burning defiance he had felt when ascending to the Nascent Soul realm in the Land of the Demon Spirit. The Celestial, his mind may be vast but that didn’t mean it was limitless. He was but a man.
Bai Wei was not benevolent. He sought to drag Wang Lin into his own personal rebellion, to challenge the Celestial’s perceived perfection. He wanted to witness, even in death, the Celestial’s fallibility. Wang Lin’s eyes flashed with a cold, calculating light. “I dare!” he declared.
Far beyond the celestial sphere, a streak of violet light tore through the cosmos. Within the light was a boisterous figure, clad in robes of rich purple, his face marked by a roguish grin.
“I wonder how Little Lin is doing. Curse those hags from Phoenix Crest Star! Thinking they could bully me just because I lacked backup. I’ll find Little Lin and we’ll teach those she-devils a lesson they won’t soon forget!”
