Chapter 951: The Saving Grace of an Ancient God. | Renegade Immortal
Renegade Immortal - Updated on February 24, 2025
In the ethereal expanse of the alien deity’s brow, eight stars glimmered. Had it ended there, Wang Lin would have been merely impressed. But beyond the eighth star, a ninth flickered into existence! This final star was yet unformed, a hazy promise of celestial power, but undeniably taking shape.
“A single step from becoming a nine-star Ancient God!” Wang Lin gasped, never imagining this shield to be an artifact of such magnitude.
As the immense, illusory Ancient God paused, stars hanging above their brow, their form shattered with a thunderous roar. Fragments of crystalline light cascaded across the starlit void, bathing the Water Spirit Star in momentary, brilliant daylight. The radiance faded as swiftly as it came, and the planet was plunged into darkness once more.
Before Wang Lin stood the shield, now towering near a thousand feet tall. Erect, it became a celestial barrier, dividing the realms of Yin and Yang! A shimmering emerald aura veiled it, distorting the surrounding night sky, as if this artifact was an anomaly, never meant to exist within this world.
Wang Lin inhaled deeply and strode toward the shield. Not far away, Floating Wind contemplated the relic, desire warring with apprehension. He had considered the power this artifact might hold if its seals were broken, but what he witnessed now surpassed his wildest imaginings.
He yearned to claim it, yet the brand upon his brow stayed his hand. He dared not fathom the consequences of breaching the surface seals.
The unknown bred terrors; tales of treacherous enchantments and cruel punishments. Such thoughts fueled his dread.
Wang Lin reached the shield, his right hand pressing against its surface without hesitation. The moment his palm touched the enchanted metal, a torrent of raw Ancient God power surged forth. It flooded Wang Lin’s body, a maddening tide of fury and a burning desire to obliterate all. The onslaught coursed through him, seeking to rend him asunder.
But the power could not harm him. After rippling through him, it retreated back into the shield. In that instant, Wang Lin’s mind exploded with information. Fortunately, his Ancient God flesh steeled him against the worst. He absorbed the knowledge pouring into him. At length, comprehension dawned in his eyes as he uttered softly, “Dī!”
It was an Ancient God word, strange and potent. As it left his lips, an arcane energy enveloped the thousand-foot shield. Emerald light blazed around it, shrinking with impossible speed. The shield returned to palm-size, floating serenely before Wang Lin.
Wang Lin’s gaze was steady. He knew had he not possessed the Ancient God physique, the raw power would have killed him. This treasure was unlike the Ancient God cauldron.
Though the cauldron harbored Ancient God energy, that energy lacked the vitality and sentience of this artifact. The Ancient God cauldron was merely a tool, and a discarded one at that. It was nothing but a trinket, and Tu Si abandoned it.
This shield, however, was different. It had clearly belonged to an Ancient God. Otherwise, its master’s likeness would not have materialized upon the breaking of the seal.
Its power, though perhaps less than a true Celestial Spear, was still formidable. Both were the exclusive domain of Ancient Gods.
Should a non-Ancient God claim such a relic, they could only wield a fraction of its true power. They would never dare to fully unlock it, for it would only acknowledge its rightful master: an Ancient God.
“Floating Wind,” Wang Lin said, his voice calm. “Unleash your full power, strike me with your most potent art!”
Floating Wind’s expression shifted from hesitation to suspicion. He wove a complex hand seal, and violet light enveloped him. A colossal stone tablet manifested before him, tearing across the sky with deafening force, hurtling toward Wang Lin.
Countless symbols flickered upon the tablet, coalescing into an overwhelming power. As it descended, a cacophony echoed through the air, and cracks spread across the sky within a hundred feet.
But as the stone tablet crashed down upon Wang Lin, the emerald shield floating before him blazed with blinding light. With uncanny speed, it struck the tablet head-on.
A deafening explosion ripped through the air. The stone tablet shattered, and, to Floating Wind’s horror, the tablet’s inherent celestial power was devoured by the shield. The shield’s light intensified.
Wang Lin’s eyes narrowed in thought. He summoned the shield to his palm, examining it closely. A smile touched his lips.
“This is not a treasure of royalty, yet it is an exceptional artifact of an Ancient God, such as the ordinary ones among them might possess. According to the knowledge that poured into me, if this relic absorbs sufficient celestial energy, it can unleash the Ancient God’s most powerful, life-saving art!” Even Wang Lin’s composure wavered at the prospect.
“A life-saving art of an eight-star Ancient God…” Wang Lin drew a breath, his gaze fixed upon the shield. With a flicker of his eyes, it shrank once more, transforming into an emerald glimmer that vanished into Wang Lin’s right pupil.
Now, Wang Lin’s right eye held an eerie depth of blue. Anyone who gazed upon it would never forget its otherworldly hue.
Meanwhile, far beyond the Water Spirit Star, a streak of light roared towards the Heavenly Fate Star. Within the light traveled Situ Nan, surrounded by a torrent of celestial power. His dark hair tossed in the winds as his rugged features, imbued with an aura of mischief, lent him a demonic allure!
He was not alone. Beside him stood a woman of captivating beauty and suggestive grace. Her figure was silhouetted by her sheer dress.
“This accursed Heavenly Fate Star! It’s so hard to find! I was wandering in circles, and would have never gotten here, if I didn’t find this beautiful Fairy sister! I owe you greatly.” Whether Situ Nan spoke the truth or not, his words made the woman laugh behind her hand. “Senior Situ is here for the Heavenly Fate Star, I wonder why?”
“Ha ha!” said Situ Nan, “I came to visit my brother. It’s been so long since we’ve met. “My friend from long ago. How strong has his cultivation become?” He looked up and gave off a sigh. “It’s been many years since Wang Lin and I separated. I wonder how that kid is doing.”
“Oh, you have a friend, Senior? I wonder who it is. Perhaps this one has met him before.” The woman smiled at him.
