Chapter 955: . Creating a Divine Power: Fragment of Twilight . | Renegade Immortal
Renegade Immortal - Updated on February 24, 2025
Liu Wenben, a name lost to the annals of time, was once a humble Qi cultivator in the ancient age. Though blessed with a keen mind, he was far from exceptional amidst the immortals and demons of that era. Yet, within him stirred a nascent power, for he pioneered what the annals of the cultivation world would later record as the first awakening of the Divine Genesis!
No soul knew how he unlocked the secrets of the Divine Genesis, nor how long he dwelt within its enigmatic embrace. Was it a fleeting moment, or an eternity stretched thin?
All that was known was this: the once-obscure Liu Wenben, after years of seclusion, emerged a rare and formidable power in the cultivation world. Most terrifying of all were his supernatural abilities – unlike any ever witnessed before, whispers of which spread like wildfire.
But it was not merely their novelty that struck terror into hearts. The sheer destructive force of Liu Wenben’s techniques defied imagination, imbued with the very essence of Heaven and Earth. In the ancient age, his rise sparked a tempest that threatened to engulf all.
Countless sought the secret of his newfound power, unleashing a torrent of blood and treachery. But no matter how many cultivators joined the hunt, not even reclusive and powerful elders could so much as graze Liu Wenben. He seemed to foresee every danger, deftly avoiding each pitfall as if guided by the threads of prophecy.
Realizing the futility of standing against the collective might of the world, Liu Wenben vanished into the mists of legend. He became a cryptic tale whispered throughout the ancient cultivation realm. Only long after did some, through serendipity, begin to suspect that Liu Wenben had transcended to one of the Three Supreme Realms – not the Realm of Extremes, but either the Realm of the Tao or the Realm of Genesis. Weighing all that was known, they ultimately placed him within the Realm of Genesis.
The tales of his unseen and unheard-of abilities then gave rise to a new understanding of Genesis: that it was a source of endless creation, from which one could conjure their own Heaven and Earth. Thus, the legends, both real and imagined, have been passed down through the ages. The Realm of Extremes is death; the Realm of Genesis is life.
This history, Wang Lin did not know. He was presently immersed in a strange and unfamiliar state, seeking to grasp its essence, yet forever circling on its periphery.
A wisp of understanding always shimmered before him, but whenever Wang Lin reached for it, he found only emptiness. Such a sensation was nearly foreign to his being.
He watched as the twilight’s embers were consumed by the encroaching darkness, the land swallowed whole. Only the rhythmic murmur of the waves, lapping against the shore, reached his ears.
Wang Lin felt no impatience. His character was forged in the fires of perseverance. As a mere youth, he had climbed the treacherous steps of Heng Yue Mountain, relying on nothing but his fragile body. Had such tenacity been absent, the Wang Lin of this moment could never have existed.
He gazed calmly at the heavens. If he could not seize the elusive understanding, then he would wait, patiently enduring each sunrise and sunset, until the truth grew clear and the moment to grasp it finally arrived!
Ling’er awoke in the deep night. Her eyelashes fluttered, and slowly she opened her eyes, greeted by the starlit expanse above. Rising silently, she glanced at Wang Lin, seated in meditation not far away. By the silver light of the moon, she could discern the sharp angles of his face.
With her awakening, it was as if a seal within her mind had been broken. Memories, long dormant, flooded her senses. But they were so ancient, so distant, that Ling’er could only stare at Wang Lin, lost in a daze.
Her gaze was unfocused, not truly seeing him, for even had he been absent, her countenance would have been the same.
Scenes from a bygone era danced within Ling’er’s mind, coalescing into the events that preceded her slumber as the first rays of dawn painted the sky. Touching her brow, a glimmer of understanding sparked in her eyes. The dreams that had plagued her for so long now held answers. After a long silence, she rose to her feet and spoke to Wang Lin with reverence, “Servant of the Gods, Mu Ling, greets the Ancient God.”
Wang Lin gave a slight nod. “Return to your abode,” he said, his voice even, “and trouble me no further.”
Wang Lin’s words were law to Ling’er. Bowing her head, she whispered her assent. With a flick of the bell she held, a celestial crane descended from the heavens. Ling’er leapt gracefully onto its back.
She turned to gaze at Wang Lin, a fleeting sense of disorientation in the depths of her eyes, before a sigh escaped her lips. And then, with the crane, she vanished into the morning air.
Wang Lin paid her no heed, his gaze fixed on the distant horizon. Soon, a sliver of light crawled across the sky, gradually saturating the heavens.
The peculiar sensation intensified once more, yet even as the sun ascended, Wang Lin remained unenlightened.
Time flowed onward, days bled into weeks, and Wang Lin lost all track of how long he had remained here. The Three Sons of Dust and the bloated Fu Fengzi had even passed by, but he remained oblivious to their presence.
His eyes were bloodshot, his senses dulled, but he cared for nothing. All that existed in the world had faded from his perception, leaving only the spectacle of the sunrise. Ten miles away from where Wang Lin sat upon the peak, the Three Sons of Dust hovered in the air, their eyes fixed on his motionless form. “It has been a month now…” Longzi muttered, a frown furrowing his brow. “What in creation is he trying to comprehend?”
Xingzi shook his head slowly. “Whatever requires a Nirvana Exalt to contemplate for this long must be an incredibly potent ability!”
Yichenzi pondered for some time before shaking his head. “I am not so sure. Have you noticed? There isn’t a trace of Yuan energy fluctuation around him, not even a whisper of divine sense. Yet, we cannot approach. There is a mystery here that eludes us. I have a strange feeling he is attempting to grasp the Tao!”
“Grasp the Tao!” Longzi’s eyes widened as he stared intently at Wang Lin. After a long moment, he nodded. “That is quite possible!” “While there is no Yuan energy, anyone who steps within ten miles is repelled by an immense force that is impossible to overcome!” Xingzi said gravely.
Longzi frowned. “Speaking of that repulsive force, I have made a discovery. The power feels as if it is born directly from the heavens and the earth. When I attempted to enter a few days ago, I felt as if I were facing the full fury of a raging ocean!”
“Let us observe,” Yichenzi said calmly. “If he is truly seeking to grasp the Tao, it will be a rare experience for us. Perhaps by observing, we can gain some insight as well.” With that, he sat down in the void, his gaze fixed on Wang Lin on the mountain peak.
Hidden amongst them, Fu Fengzi’s eyes flickered for a brief moment, and he muttered to himself, “He does not appear to be grasping the Tao… Regardless, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me… But what will happen after I shatter that seal?” Uncertainty and hesitation warred within him.
Bighead, Tasha, and Lei Ji had also arrived, drawn by the fact that Wang Lin had remained in meditation for nearly a month. They could not help but feel concerned.
With each passing sunrise and sunset, time continued to slip by. Another month had passed.
Wang Lin’s eyes were now entirely bloodshot. He had forgotten everything, his gaze fixed on the distant sea. With each dawn that broke, he could feel the elusive sensation growing more distinct. This was the ninth day of the third month.
The sky was obscured by heavy clouds, and the distant growl of thunder echoed through the air. Soon, large droplets of rain began to fall as dawn broke, drenching the world.
The sea roiled beneath the downpour, waves crashing against the shore in defiance of the storm.
Shrouded in the rain, the rising sun was veiled, its form hazy and indistinct. Just as the light began to break through the clouds, it was swallowed by the darkness.
The sun seemed to struggle to rise above the horizon, and at that moment, Wang Lin’s eyes snapped into focus. A powerful surge of energy emanated from him. He could sense that, after waiting for two months, the most crucial instant had arrived!
He focused all his mental energy, his gaze locked on the rising sun, as if his entire being sought to merge with it.
Thunder roared and rain poured, but nothing could break Wang Lin’s concentration or stop him from immersing his senses in the moment. Nor could they prevent the ultimate ascent of the sun!
As the sun emerged from the horizon, half-risen from the sea, Wang Lin felt a jolt jolt in his mind. He could feel the elusive threads that surrounded his body coalescing around him at an unprecedented rate. They coiled around his being before, with a jolt, becoming one with him. In that instant, Wang Lin’s body trembled violently, as if his soul had left its mortal coil!
He saw the sun struggling to rise above the ocean. He could feel that the sea was a mother, and the sun was a child being born. And in that moment of birth, a power beyond comprehension erupted forth. It was the power of the sun’s light, the power of day, that was splitting apart the endless night. This destructive power could turn the world upside down. The darkness became fragmented before it retreated. The world was filled with light! A Sea of Sun is Born from a Night of Destruction! “That is the power!” Wang Lin’s eyes glittered, as his mind completely fused with the essence of that moment. The force that tore through the night!
“Now!” Fu Fengzi’s eyes flashed coldly. He had been waiting for this moment, but he realized that Wang Lin had no chance of defeating him. He would kill Wang Lin to break the seal that held him in place! “If I kill him, the seal will shatter!” Fu Fengzi’s eyes flashed, and in a flash, he was charging towards Wang Lin!
But the instant he stepped within the ten-mile radius, Fu Fengzi’s expression changed drastically. He beheld a sight that shattered his sense of reality, filling his eyes with terror and shock! “This… What is this?”
