Chapter 1883: | Renegade Immortal

Renegade Immortal - Updated on March 8, 2025

Within the vast expanse of the Southern Continent’s Mountain-Sea Isle lies an inland ocean, known simply as the Mountain-Sea. Its waters stretch far and wide, a canvas upon which countless seabirds paint swirling patterns against the azure sky. The rhythmic crash of waves upon the shore carries with it the briny kiss of the sea breeze.

This Mountain-Sea claims dominion over nearly seven-tenths of the entire isle, leaving only the remaining land as a ring embracing its watery embrace.

Upon the northern coast, nestled amidst a range of mountains, stood Wang Lin. He gazed calmly out at the ocean from atop one of the peaks.

This was the closest point to the fabled Mountain-Sea Tree, submerged deep beneath the waves. Yet, Wang Lin did not immediately seek to plunge into the depths. Instead, with a flicker of motion, he vanished from the summit, reappearing within the mountain’s heart – a grotto hewn from the rock itself.

For three years, Wang Lin had resided within this sanctuary, fortifying it with intricate arrays of protective seals. To him, this place offered a degree of safety.

Within the grotto dwelled a swirling blue mist, hinting at the presence of a formidable weapon. Through the ethereal haze, one could just make out the form of a miniature sea dragon.

Seated cross-legged within the grotto, Wang Lin closed his eyes, his hands moving with practiced ease, forming a series of precise and arcane hand seals. Each seal was the product of rigorous experimentation and held potent knowledge.

“Before I retrieve the Mountain-Sea Tree, I shall first venture into the Celestial Reverie Land and uncover its mysteries!” With this thought, Wang Lin, still seated, followed the methods he had learned over the past fifty years to enter this sacred realm. He allowed his spiritual sense to flow forth, gathering upon his brow, where it condensed and compressed into a point of radiant light.

This beacon of spiritual essence burst forth from his brow, soaring into the heavens with unimaginable speed.

It pierced through the grotto, through the mountain itself, and ascended skyward. The unseen and unfelt nature of this ascent was due to the unique hand seals Wang Lin was performing, seals that concealed all spiritual fluctuations, safeguarding celestial cultivators from detection when entering the Reverie Land.

It was said that these seals were handed down from the Immortal Ancestor himself!

Wang Lin’s spiritual sense continued its ascent, cleaving through the void, until it reached the immeasurable celestial canopy. Like a heaven-rending blade, it silently sought to pierce the very sky of the Immortal Domain!

At the pinnacle of its ascent, a cacophony of ringing filled Wang Lin’s mind. His spiritual sense perceived the sky above transform into a colossal vortex, drawing him utterly within.

A moment of disorientation, then clarity. Wang Lin’s eyes snapped open, revealing shock and wonder.

He found himself upon a continent of roughly ten thousand *li* in size. This small landmass floated in the firmament, encircled by howling winds and shimmering black threads. Within each thread pulsed a terrifying power, capable of annihilating body and soul with but a single touch.

At the heart of this continent stood a colossal palace. Ancient and imposing, it radiated a somber grandeur, inspiring awe in all who beheld it.

As Wang Lin took in his surroundings, waves of spiritual awareness emanated from the palace, sweeping over him.

Each wave carried the oppressive aura of a celestial cultivator. There were nearly two hundred in total.

“Wang Lin?”

“The White-Haired Celestial!”

“It is him!” Some of these spiritual presences recognized Wang Lin from battles fought within the past fifty years.

Wang Lin maintained his composure, surveying the area. He found himself standing upon an ancient teleportation array, a structure of such intricate design that it threatened to engulf his spiritual sense.

After a moment, Wang Lin withdrew his gaze and stepped off the array. He examined himself carefully. His form was identical to his corporeal body. Had he not known otherwise, he would have been hard-pressed to discern any difference.

“This Celestial Reverie Land, forged by the Immortal Ancestor himself, is truly extraordinary!” With a flicker of movement, Wang Lin made his way towards the ancient palace, the source of the swirling spiritual energy.

The closer he drew, the more awestruck Wang Lin became. Though the palace was already immense from afar, it was even more so up close. What was more astonishing was that above the palace, a chain of even grander palaces floated in the sky!

Nineteen palaces in all, linked as if a serpentine dragon. The highest of these palaces disappeared into the celestial canopy, their forms obscured by distance, but their aura pressed down with undeniable force.

“In my fifty years of research, I learned that the Celestial Reverie Land is actually the manifestation of the Immortal Ancestor’s most powerful magical treasure, existing within the void to protect the Immortal Clan,” Wang Lin mused, gazing at the palaces in the sky. The majority were but vague shapes, their distance insurmountable, but the pressure they emitted was palpable.

As he approached, Wang Lin noticed two hundred or so cultivators seated in meditation around the base of the first palace. They kept their distance from one another, seemingly disinclined to mingle.

Upon his arrival, many eyes turned to him. Some, those who recognized him from past battles, offered a polite nod.

Wang Lin returned the gesture before turning to gaze up at the colossal palace before him, feeling his own existence shrink in comparison.

“The Celestial Reverie Land is quite unique. No matter where a cultivator is within the Immortal Clan’s territory, they can be drawn here with their spiritual sense. This makes it a favored meeting place for celestial cultivators. Even those separated by vast distances can meet here.” Wang Lin recalled what he had learned in the past fifty years.

As Wang Lin pondered, a burst of golden light erupted from the seventh palace floating above. The light washed over everything, causing every celestial cultivator to look up in astonishment.

Wang Lin joined them, witnessing a figure in black emerge from the seventh palace. The man was middle-aged, with long flowing hair and a powerful aura. In a flash, he ascended, breaking through the seventh palace and entering the eighth!

“Celestial Bamboo Forest has cleared the seventh floor!”

“Clearing the seventh floor requires the fusion of at least sixty-three divine abilities. I don’t recall Celestial Bamboo Forest having that level of power!”

“For one thousand years, he’s been under the guidance of Great Celestial Emperor Jiu Di. Clearly, he has gained much…”

“The eighth floor is nothing. The main thing is the ninth floor. Whoever can pass the ninth floor will immediately be noticed by all the Great Celestials of the Immortal Clan.”

“The ninth floor… too difficult! One who can pass the ninth floor is infinitely close to becoming a Transcendent Celestial. They only need to take one more step to become the Immortal Clan’s forty-ninth Transcendent Celestial!”

“Even the strongest of the Transcendent Celestials, Ming Daozun, stopped at the sixteenth floor.”

“Rumor has it that one who can pass the nineteenth floor will possess a battle strength that even the Great Celestials would not lightly confront!”

Amidst the golden light, the surrounding two hundred Celestials exchanged spiritual messages.

As they conversed, a rumble echoed from within the eighth palace. The black-clad Celestial Bamboo Forest was suddenly ejected from the palace, falling back to earth like a shooting star, finally landing before the first palace.

The spiritual conversations ceased, and countless eyes turned to him.

With a dark expression, Celestial Bamboo Forest ignored the gazes and headed toward the distance, settling in an isolated spot where he sat down and began to meditate.

Over the next few hours, Wang Lin witnessed golden light erupting from the palaces above, followed by figures being ejected. Most, like Celestial Bamboo Forest, failed at the eighth level, while others fell at the second or third.

Wang Lin did not rush. Instead, he sat and observed. Celestials came and went, but most remained.

After three days, Celestial Bamboo Forest tried the eighth palace again, and failed again.

On the fourth day, Wang Lin’s eyes flashed. He rose to his feet and headed toward the first palace. His actions attracted little attention. After all, the first palace was far too easy for most Celestials.

However, those who had fought with Wang Lin noticed his entrance.

“That White-Haired Celestial is entering the first palace? Clearly, he’s a first-timer. I wonder how many floors he can clear.”

“This man is strange. His cultivation is ordinary, but his battle strength is amazing. I’m no match for him. I wonder how far he can go.”

“Wang Lin… in the past few decades, his name has resounded throughout the Southern Continent. It is said that Great Celestial Dao Yi tried to recruit him, but he refused.” A dozen gazes followed Wang Lin as he vanished into the palace.

The moment Wang Lin stepped into the first palace, he felt the world shift. He saw that the inside of the palace was a starry sky!

The sky was vast and endless, with countless stars shining brightly. And he stood within this starry sea.

A strange whistling wind blew through the stars. Wang Lin looked up, his eyes gleaming!
