The carriage sped along the narrow path, Wang Lin’s body jostling with the bumps in the road. He clutched the package in his arms, his heart surging with emotion, carrying his parents’ hopes as he left the mountain village he had called home for fifteen years.
The journey to the county town was a long one, and Wang Lin gradually drifted off to sleep. He didn’t know how long he had been asleep when he was gently nudged awake. He opened his eyes to see his fourth uncle smiling at him, teasing, “Tie Zhu, what do you think of leaving home for the first time?”
Wang Lin noticed the carriage had stopped. He chuckled sheepishly, “I don’t really think anything. I’m just a little scared. I don’t know if I’ll be accepted by the immortals.”
His fourth uncle laughed and patted Tie Zhu’s shoulder. “Alright, don’t think so much. We’re here. This is my house. You go rest, and I’ll take you to your family tomorrow morning.”
After getting out of the carriage, Wang Lin saw a collection of tiled-roof houses before him. Following his fourth uncle into a room, Wang Lin sat on the bed, unable to sleep. Images of his parents, villagers, and relatives flashed through his mind. He sighed softly, his desire to be accepted as a disciple by the immortals growing stronger.
Time passed, and soon the sky began to lighten, the sun gradually rising. Despite not having slept much, Wang Lin felt full of energy. With a hint of apprehension, he followed his fourth uncle to the Wang family’s grand residence.
This was the first time Wang Lin had ever seen such a large house, his eyes dazzled by the sight. His fourth uncle sighed as they walked, “Tie Zhu, this time you must make your father proud. Don’t let the relatives laugh at us.”
Wang Lin felt even more nervous, biting his lip, and nodded.
Soon, his fourth uncle led him to the main courtyard of the residence. The old man, who was the eldest brother of Tie Zhu’s father, stood in the yard. He saw Tie Zhu and nodded slightly, saying, “Tie Zhu, when the immortal arrives, don’t be surprised. Just do as your brother Wang Zhuo does. Understand?”
The last few words were spoken in a stern tone.
Wang Lin remained silent, looking around. Besides Wang Zhuo, there was another boy, a young man with slightly darker skin, a round face, and a hint of cunning in his eyes. His clothes seemed to bulge, as if he was carrying something.
Seeing Tie Zhu looking at him, he stuck out his tongue and made a face, running over to ask, “Are you Tie Zhu, Second Uncle’s son? I’m Wang Hao.”
Wang Lin smiled softly and nodded.
The old man, annoyed that Tie Zhu had ignored him, was about to scold him.
Just then, clouds in the sky began to swirl, and a sword light streaked through the air like lightning. The sword light dissipated, revealing a young man in white robes. The young man’s eyes were bright and piercing, exuding an extraordinary aura. His expression was cold, and he glanced at the three boys, his gaze lingering on the bulge in the cunning boy’s clothes. He said coldly, “These are the three from the Wang family?”
“Is this the immortal?” One look from the immortal made Wang Lin feel a chill run through his body. His heart pounded wildly, and his face turned pale as he stared blankly at the immortal.
Looking at the cunning boy, he saw that he had his hands clasped, standing respectfully, his eyes filled with fervor.
Only Wang Zhuo glanced at the immortal indifferently, snorting softly.
Wang Zhuo’s father quickly stepped forward, his face full of respect, and said, trembling, “Immortal, these three are indeed the family members recommended by the Wang family.”
The young man nodded impatiently. “Which one is Wang Zhuo?” he asked.
The old man’s face lit up, and he quickly pulled Wang Zhuo forward, saying, “Immortal, this is my son, Wang Zhuo.”
The young man looked at Wang Zhuo deeply, his expression softening slightly. He nodded and said, “Junior Brother Wang is indeed a talented individual. No wonder he was chosen by Dao Xu Martial Uncle.”
Wang Zhuo glanced at Tie Zhu and the cunning boy with pride, saying arrogantly, “Of course. Dao Xu Immortal praised my aptitude for cultivation.”
The young man frowned, but quickly relaxed. He looked at Wang Zhuo with a smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes, waved his sleeve, and took the three boys, ascending into the clouds, transforming into a long rainbow that vanished in an instant.
His fourth uncle looked up at the sky, murmuring to himself, “Tie Zhu, you must be chosen!”
Wang Lin felt his body lighten. The strong gale whipped his face, causing it to sting. Looking closely, he was shocked to find that he was being held under the young man’s arm, flying quickly through the air. The villages on the ground became palm-sized black dots, moving rapidly behind them.
In just a short while, his eyes were red from the wind, and tears streamed down his face.
“If you three don’t want to go blind, close your eyes,” the young man’s cold voice came. Wang Lin trembled inwardly and quickly closed his eyes, not daring to look again. His desire for cultivation grew even stronger.
After a while, Wang Lin could feel the young man breathing slightly heavier, and the speed noticeably decreased. Then, the scenery blurred before his eyes, and the young man quickly descended. Upon landing, the young man released his arm, and the three boys fell to the ground.
Fortunately, the impact wasn’t too hard, and the three quickly got up. Before Wang Lin was a paradise-like fairyland, with green hills and clear waters, the songs of birds, and the fragrance of flowers.
Directly in front of him, a towering mountain peak pierced the clouds, with jagged rocks and swirling mist, making it impossible to see clearly. Occasionally, the roar of a beast could be heard. A winding stone path snaked down from the mountain, like a scene from a painting, with clear mountains and bright waters. A sense of otherworldly detachment was born.
Looking up, a large hall could be seen at the top of the mountain. Although obscured by clouds and mist, bursts of colorful light shimmered, causing people to involuntarily feel a sense of reverence.
Next to the hall, a long stone bridge extended horizontally like a crescent moon, stretching into the void of clouds and mist, connecting to another mountain peak.
Such a blessed land was naturally the location of the Heng Yue Sect. The Heng Yue Sect was one of the few cultivation sects in the Zhao Kingdom. 500 years ago, it once dominated the entire Zhao Kingdom’s cultivation world, possessing several Nascent Soul stage experts, enjoying unparalleled glory. Unfortunately, as time passed, the sect underwent several changes. Today, the once great sect had shrunk to the point where it could barely maintain its foothold in the cultivation world.
However, despite this, the Heng Yue Sect was still unreachable to the mortals within a radius of ten thousand miles.
“Junior Brother Zhang, are these the boys recommended by the Wang family?” A middle-aged man in black robes, with a hint of immortal elegance, floated down from the mountain.
The young man’s face showed respect, saying, “Third Senior Brother, these three are indeed recommended by the Wang family.”
The middle-aged man glanced over the boys, focusing on Wang Zhuo for a few moments, smiling, “The Sect Master knows that you are at a crucial point in your cultivation, so he has asked me to conduct this test. You can go back to your cultivation.”
The young man acknowledged, his body moving, following the mountain path, disappearing in the blink of an eye.
Wang Lin stared blankly at the scene before him, his heart surging. Suddenly, he felt someone tugging at his clothes. Turning his head, he saw the cunning boy, his eyes filled with even more fervor, saying in a low voice, “This is where the immortals live. Goddamn it, Wang Hao will be chosen no matter what!” After speaking, he touched the bulge in his clothes.
